Fun Products To Think About In Your Search
Sliding Fabric or Woven Wood Panels...
These products have been around for a few years however most people are unaware of this option. Many people have grown tired to the classic vertical blind. With fabric panels you can create a more up to date and stylish look for your sliding doors or even a very wide window. Definatly ask your window specialist to show you this product during your search. Just a tip.. JCPenney usually has a variety of options with this product at a great price!
Roman Shades...
Roman shades are a great look if you want to add a softer and more decorative touch to the room. There are a variety of fabrics which you can normally choose a flat or looped style shade. Make sure if you select an intricate patterned fabric that you choose the flat style as with the looped you can not match up the pattern. You can also get Roman shades in woven woods which have become very popular again.
Cornice Boards...
Cornice Boards are good to look into if you are tired of using decorative rods. You can use a variety of soft treatments and applications and have a very elegant look.
GREAT UPGRADE OPTION TIP:
When you are in the market for cellular shades ask about the Top down Bottom Up option. This is a great feature as you can lower the blind from the top as well as raise it from the bottom. It allows for a variety of adjusted privacy and light control. Make sure you ask your Window specialist about this one. Also ask them about the Duo or Trio option.. It can be called a variety of names but it is basically an option where you can have a solid fabric attatched to a bottom rail and a sheer fabric attatched to the top rail. This allows you to have both levels of privacy options.

How to Measure for Blinds and Shades
What you will need....
-Steel or Solid Measuring Tape (No cloth measure Tapes as they can stretch and be inaccurate.)
-Paper or Notebook
-Pen/Pencil
-Step stool or Ladder
Inside Mounts
An inside mount is when you plan to mount the blind or shade within he casing of the window. This also means that you must have enough depth to accommodate the product that you plan to install. You will need to choose a product before you will know exactly how much depth that you need but usually you will need at least 3/4". If you have enough depth you can mount your product flush but it is not always necessary to do this. It is always necessary to take the depth measurement before you go into any Window Covering Store to order.
TO MEASURE:
To measure for inside mount you will measure inside the the window frame in 3 different places. Top middle and bottom. Take all 3 measurements and write them down. The smallest measurement will be the one that you will place the order off of. Do not take any deductions to allow for clearances as the factories will take these deductions off in the factory for you. Don't forget to measure your depth amount and make sure it meets the requirements for your selected product. Make sure you measure each window independently even if they look the same size.
Outside Mounts
Outside mounts are for when you don't have enough depth within the window frame or you want to hang your blind or shade above the window. For outside mounts there is a slightly different way to measure...
TO MEASURE:
To measure for outside mount you must make sure that you choose the correct place to mount the blind. If you mount it above the trim you must record the depth of the trim in case you need extension brackets. If You mount it on the molding you must make sure it is able to provide the proper support as well as it is wide enough to support the product. With an outside mount you will want to measure the exact width that YOU want the blind. Make sure that you allow for some overhang on the sides so that light will not creep through when you want to close the blind or shade. You also want to make sure that you order the blind long enough and not too short. Measure from the hanging point to the bottom of the window sill. Record the measurement and add normally about 2-3 inches to the bottom to allow for errors. You defiantly don't want to have a blind that is too short.

Windows and Me
My Name is Katie and I graduated in 2003 from the International Academy of Design and Technology here in Tampa with my Associate of Science in Interior Design. Since completing my degree I have worked in a variety of areas in the Design field. Most of my experience has been in the Window Covering Industry where I have spent about 5 years woking within the field including the experience of Running my own Home Business, K. Liz Interiors in Columbia, Missouri. During this time I worked with a variety of home and business clients helping them with everything from window covering product and color selections to pricing and supervision of installation. I have also in my experience worked in Furniture Sales and Design as well as floor planning. My goal for this blog was to pass on some knowledge to help in getting you started with your Window Covering Design project. There are so many products and ideas to choose from so make sure you look at all that is available. I know how stressful design projects can be when you dont know much about what you are working with so its always important to ask for help if you have questions. Being in the industry for close to 5 years, I can tell you that proffessional assistance can be very helpful in selecting the perfect product or treatment for your space.
